Akiko Hoshino

Name: Akiko Hoshino
Bio: Akiko Hoshino was born in Fukushima, Japan. She graduated from Tama Art University in Tokyo and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater Arts. Digital Hollywood Computer Animation School, Tokyo, Japan - (1996 - 1997) While she studied at the university, she also received classical art training in a private atelier. She moved to New York in 1999 and began studying at the Art students League of New York, where she came under the influence of Dan Gheno and Sam Goodsell She studied drawing with George Cannata and printmaking with Michael Pellettieri.
Akiko Hoshino was the recipient of the Ruth Richeson/Unison Pastels Award in the 2010 Pastel Journal’s Pastel 100 competition.

Akiko Hoshino was hit by a car in New York city, October 2010, and sadly passed away some days later. She had a unique vision, her extraordinary and sensitive work was immediately recognisable and inimitable. She is a great loss to the world of pastel. May she rest in peace. As of January 2012 this website was still online.
