David Mathews

Name: David Mathews, PSA
Bio: David Mathews started out as an illustrator. His interests led him on to portrait work and he spent four years studying with local portrait artists. (He lives in Winston, Georgia). He has also studied with Margaret Baumgaertner and Philippe Faraut. He is a juried member of the Degas Pastel Society, juried member and past director of the Atlanta Portrait Society, Member of Excellence of the Southeastern Pastel Society and a member of the Portrait Society of America and the Pastel Society of America. David teaches pastel and oil portrait painting at the Mabel House in Mableton, as well as regular private classes in his studio and three day workshops in the southeastern US and in France.
Medium: Pastel, oil, terra cotta, bronze, porcelain.
David studies and collects portraiture from the 17th to 19th centuries, with a special emphasis on late 18th century France, when pastel, oil and sculptural portraiture all flourished.
Subjects: Portrait paintings in both oil and pastel; portrait sculptures in terra cotta, bronze and porcelain.
Style: Representational.
