Denise LaRue Mahlke

Name: Denise LaRue Mahlke
Bio: Like Garrett Middaugh, Denise LaRue Mahlke draws inspiration from the rugged landscape and vast sky of the American West and the subtle beauty and diversity of her native Texas. Denise showed an early interest in drawing and was taking classes with Simon Michael by the time she was 10. Workshops with Bob Rohm and T. Allen Lawson encouraged her to work in the great outdoors so that she now teaches plein air painting in pastels and oils.
Denise is a board member and former president of the Central Texas Pastel Society, and a member of Plein Air Austin and the Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters. Her work has been featured in American Artist, Southwest Art's Artists to Watch, The Pastel Journal, and Western Art Collector and she had been placed in the Pastel Journals’s annual Pastel 100 in both Wildlife and Landscape categories.
