Catherine Saunier

Name: Catherine Mahieu - Saunier
Bio: Born in Lorraine in 1967 of northern French stock. In 1992, she started to take lessons in the Ecole d'Arts plastiques in Niort, learning the basic of drawing, trying out various techniques until the fatal day in 1997 when she picked up a stick of pastel. She has since studied pastel with Dany Masson, Chris, Patrick Martin, Richard Heitz, Marie-Pierre Le Sellin, Claude Texier, Monique Marchand, Patrick Bechtold, and Penelope Milner. Catherine now lives in the picturesque village of Magné in the Marais Poitevin, where there is a huge two-day painting festival every summer, not to be missed if you are anywhere close by. The festival takes place on the 3rd weekend of July and hosts 300 artists, drawing more than 15,000 visitors. First held in 1988, this event has gained national and international recognition, ranking first place in France for this type of event. (And the prize money is substantial!)
