Gary Blackwell

Name: Gary Blackwell
Bio: Gary Blackwell was awarded his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida. After a stint in the army where he served as an illustrator, he settled in Southern California to work for 23 years as a Creative Director for a large corporation.
In the 90's Gary discovered pastels and soon became a signature member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast. Within three years the PSWC bestowed the Distinguished Pastelist award on Gary. Gary is now a full-time painter both in studio and plein-air. He attends four to five invitational plein air festivals each year, including Lakewood Artist Guild (2006 Best of Show winner), Sonoma, Huntington Beach, Telluride, Rocky Mountain and La Quinta Festivals.
He was awarded an Honorable Mention in the Pastel Journal Top 100 competition for April 2010.
