Name: Sue Gombus
Bio: Sue Gombus is an
award-winning pastel artist as well as an award-winning public school teacher.
She was selected by the Cincinnati Zoo and Miami University to participate in a
field study at the Cheetah Conservation Fund in Namibia, Africa with renowned
conservationist Dr. Laurie Marker. Sue has travelled extensively on behalf of
her art and conservation projects and has had the good fortune to spend time
with some of the world’s foremost wildlife artists and conservationists. She
has painted with John and Suzy Seerey-Lester, studied wolves with Jan Martin
McGuire and traveled to Kenya with John Banovich. She is a Signature Member of
AFC (Artists for Conservation).
In April 2012 Sue was
honored with Signature Membership Status in the Society of Animal Artists. She
featured in the Pastel 100 and in May she had three paintings selected as
finalists in the Richeson 75 Pastel Competition. In August Sue was selected as
Artist of the Month for the April 2013 edition of the Artist's Magazine. Watch
out for that edition.

Sue is rapidly becoming a force to be reckoned with in the exacting field of
wildlife artists; She was selected to receive a Teacher Creativity Fellowship
from the Eli Lilly Foundation and her project, Zoofari, was chosen for funding
from a competitive field of over 500 other applicants. Sue travels to Africa
every summer to photograph, sketch and gather references for future paintings.
