Name: Karen Stombaugh, PSA
URL: http://karenstombaugh.com/
Bio: Karen Stombaugh grew up on a farm in South West Minnesota. Until 2006, when she retired from a career in critical care nursing, art was always on the periphery. She obtained a fine arts degree from the University of Minnesota by taking night classes, and now she has more time to focus on her work. During the past few years, she has taken workshops from many nationally known pastellists.
A major milestone on her artist's journey was a move to her Deephaven property, complete with a separate carriage house studio that overlooks her gardens. Karen is currently membership chair for the regional Lake Country Pastel Society. She has been juried into the Minnesota State Fair Fine Arts Exhibit a number of times and recently received awards from Arts in Harmony International Exhibit in Elk River, the Pastel Society of America, and Lake Country Pastel Society. Her painting, Over the Dam; Pipestone Creek was juried into the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS) 26th Juried Exhibition in Albuquerque, June 2015. She was juried into the Pastel Society of America's Annual Exhibit for the 3rd year in a row, qualifying her for a PSA Signature membership.

Bio: Jane Radstrom first studied drawing and painting at Watts Atelier California. She then attended Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida, emerging with a BFA in Illustration. Jane had a feature article Double Exposure in the Pastel Journal, Oct 2015, and an Honorable Mention in the Pastel 100 - Portrait and Figurative Category (she was a winner the previous year).
Medium: Pastel; oil
Subject: Figurative
Style: Contemporary realism
Technique: The artist states: "I am inspired by photographic effects, specifically the manipulation of exposure to create images that look 'real', but contain more than a single still image. In choosing poses, I focus on nuances of body language and expression. It is important to me that the people are presented realistically, showing unidealized beauty and what I think of as a modern sense of confidence in candid moments."
